Description of Project:
After completing a 458-car parking structure in 2007, this Design/Build four-level, 480-car parking structure marks Klorman Construction’s second project for Mercury Insurance, the leading independent broker and agency writer of automobile insurance in California. This structure is designed to accommodate Mercury Insurance’s additional parking required for the company’s expansion of its existing administrative office building. Unlike the first parking structure, this project offers some unique challenges, given that the parking deck features flat plate post-tensioned concrete decks over a post-tensioned concrete mat slab foundation. This special design was necessitated by potentially unstable soil conditions at the site, a result of its location adjacent to a drainage channel.
